writers Helping Each Other. Why not?

I am not a published writer yet. But I know I will be sooner or later. Meanwhile, I continue to write becuase this is what I like to do.

I just read Maryann Yin's blog, titled "Authors Unite in Marketing." What a clever idea!!! Too often, I hear about writerly jealousy. Yes, you heard me. I come across writers (friends or not) who envy other writers for either writing better, having a book or two published, or anything else that comes to mind. So reading Yin's blog was very refreshing. In it, she talks about reaching out and offer what she knows about "promoting a book", making contacts. In return, other would do it to you. Why not? Why not help???

I would love to hear your thoughts about it.

I don't believe in author jealousy. After all, if it weren't for great authors would writers have ever been inspired to write? Everything we know we learn from other writers. From how to properly punctuate to how to get published. Authors should work together. Publishing is a tough business to break into, and writers are a depressed sort of group anyway. We need each other, because sometimes we are the only ones who understand each other.

Indeed, well put. I do believe that when you extend a helping hand, somehow, it comes back to you many times over.

I feel it is important to support one another. Making each other better writers by supporting and giving good critiques is very helpful.

I give props to all of my writer friends, published or unpublished. Everyone works just as hard. I would say there are moments where I say "Oh, I wish I were published." But wish no ill will on anyone who is. I commend them for their efforts and congratulate them.

Great post. Gets us thinking.

Yeah, some writers are jealous. And paranoid. They don't want to show their work in case someone 'steals' it. And they'll never sell anything.

Only when we keep learning - from classes, books, and others who've gone through it before us - will we ever sell that ms.

Writers need each other so much. No one else understands the life of a writer. I love all the amazing writer friends I've made and appreciate the support so much. There'll always be those bad apples who taint the bunch. But in general I've had an astounding experience with my fellow writers.
